Posture is usually defined as "the upright well-balanced position of a human being". A postural disorder occurs when a posture diverges from normal alignment. This can cause pain syndromes in long-term.
The purposes of the postural assessment & treatment are to find out all the mechanisms which may cause pain now or in long-term.
We consider also how someone "uses" his body throughout his life (repeated movements, sports, frequent postures...) to understand and prevent any musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction.
We use an evidence-based method which is the Global Postural Re-education (GPR or RPG). This approach is holistic, gentle and conservative. If you don't have any pain, GPR can help you with your posture. If you have pain, the idea is to find the mechanical causes of symptoms using the GPR method and then, to work on muscle systems (or chains) to treat the identified problems. When our physiotherapist treats someone with the GPR, she looks at posture and deformities which may be connected to symptoms.
