MAXILLOFACIAL PHYSIOTHERAPY WHEN JAWS DYSFUNCTION AND FACIAL PAIN

Jaw pain, clenching teeth at night or during the day, clicking, cracking, getting stuck with open or closed mouth, deviated opening. These jaw problems are relatively not much known in the medical community but are nevertheless very common in the population.

After an assessment of the manducatory system which include the temporomandibular joints, tongue position, teeth contact, the rehabilitation could help to alleviate the different components of mandibular dysfunction: pain, muscular imbalance, joint noises, and disturbances in jaws movements. Rehabilitation will contribute, through exercises to improve jaws movement, reducing pain and obtaining joint freedom. The results obtained will be stabilized by learning some exercises to continue at home.

The maxillofacial physiotherapist will collaborate with other health providers during your treatment (surgeons, dentist, GP, speech therapist etc.)
